Community &
Parenting ProgramsThe Parenting Programs of Methodist
Healthcare Ministries include MELD (Mutual
Enrichment Through Learning and Development)
in the San Antonio area and Parents Helping
Parents (PHP) in smaller rural communities.
Both provide parents a peer-based group
where all members are dealing with similar
parenting concerns. The objective is to help
individuals become better parents.
In San Antonio, the Wesley Health and Wellness Center (now located at 1406 Fitch Street)
has been providing a gathering place for
citizens of the South side for nearly 100
years. It is a source of support for
individuals of all ages, offering
after-school programs, summer camp, quilting
and sewing classes, exercise and health
education classes, as well as athletic
leagues in basketball and flag football. In
fall of 2004, a Criminal Justice Program
started a quarterly virtual courthouse at
Wesley, helping to ensure that more
low-income individuals get needed legal
assistance.
